Elgin is in both Cook and Kane counties, located 35 miles Northwest of Chicago. It is the eighth largest city in Illinois, with over 115,000 people along 37 square miles. The city was founded in 1835 and was named after the Scottish song "Elgin". Elgin was once home to the Elgin Watch company, which built the clocks at Union Station in Chicago. Since then, the city has undergone renovations and development, especially in the historical downtown area.
